Waiting for High Tide

The latest painting from my series of chains paintings inspired by the many chains found on our local harbour walls.
This one was found at Lower town, Fishguard, Pembrokeshire. The stone quay is still used by fishermen and pleasure boats and is surrounded by picturesque cottages.

Gors Fawr, oil painting by Carole King
Gors Fawr
84 x 18cm
Oil on panel
Gors Fawr is an ancient stone circle in Pembrokeshire which nestles in the curve of the Preselis in West Wales. If you visit you will find a sensation of calm surrounding the stones which are small in stature but create an area of peace in this rural area. Gorse bushes and marshgrasses are spread through this landscape as well as the occasional sheep.
Abergalsney Arches 5, Oil painting by Carole King
Aberglasney Arches 5
28.5 x 34
Oil on Panel
The beautiful house and gardens at Aberglasney are in Carmarthenshire,Wales. Exhibiting in these wonderful surroundings gives you time to really take in and absorb your environment. Whilst there I made several drawings and started painting the many stone arches in the gardens- this one leads out from the lake garden towards the kitchen gardens
Window-Moel Dhu
63 x 88cm
Oil on Canvas
This is the view through the window space of one of the abandoned bulidings at the bottom of Moel Ddu in North Wales.
The moss grows in the spaces between the weathered stones which shine in the inevitably wet atmosphere. The surrounding hills are viewed through a light mist - just as we saw them as we climbed Moel Ddu itself. A mining area in the past the site is now abandoned, leaving only a few derelict buildings dotted over the landscape.

Spring Hellebore oil painting by Carole King
Spring Hellebore
Oil on Canvas
30x30 unframed
Fresh greens and pinks coloured this Hellebore as it bloomed this spring. I just couldn't resist capturing this single flower with its clean colours and patterned petals.
The Hellebores grow beautifully in the damp climate of West Wales and are one of my favourite garden flowers.
